About me
My name is Vernandi, and I am originally from South Africa. Before moving to the Netherlands in 2019, I lived in Malta. In South Africa, I completed my Master of Arts Clinical Psychology degree and training as a clinical psychologist. I am a registered independent Clinical Psychologist at the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
During my professional experience in South Africa, I was able to work with a diverse group of people in various stages of their lives. My training and my experience in South Africa gave me a greater understanding of a wide variety of mental health problems, and the role that culture, past experiences, relationships and life circumstances play in the problems people face. In Malta, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a Non-profit refugee organisation. I supported refugees in dealing with their trauma and adjusting to their current circumstances. I gained valuable insight into expat-life as a result of my experience, as well as my personal experience of moving and adapting to a new country’s culture, lifestyle and language.
My Approach
Therapy is a unique relationship between you and your therapist. I believe that both parties are equally crucial for therapy to be beneficial. As a therapist, I would describe myself as empathic, authentic, and non-judgemental. I aim to build a safe and trusting relationship with you. During this process, I hope that you gain a greater understanding of your emotions and thoughts, as well as the necessary skills to integrate them into the rest of your life circumstances and relationships. How we reach this goal will be tailored to the needs that you have. My integrative training allows me to be flexible to these needs that you may have. That being said, I do have a special interest in Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
